Some years ago, I can remember reflecting on my life and realized that I wasn’t all that impressed with what I had accomplished so far. I kept playing my past over and over in my head until it was causing me to be unproductive in my daily life, and in my purpose as a whole. I often drifted into a daze, thinking about my past; playing over in my head the scenes from being sexually abused as a child, or the feeling of being trapped in a toxic relationship, or how about this one; marrying a man whom God clearly told me not to marry. These were some of the mistakes I made that hindered me from fulfilling God’s plan for my life and pursuing destiny. But suddenly, I had an epiphany and realized that in order for me to go forward in life, I had to stop looking in the rearview mirror. I had to move forward. If you find yourself sitting in the same seat I was sitting in years ago, it is time for YOU to move forward too.
See, regardless of the trials we’ve faced in life or the mistakes we’ve made, we have already been set up to overcome them and to walk in victory. Jesus, The Christ, Our Redeemer, Our Way-maker, Healer, Heart-Fixer, Mind-Regulator and I can go on and on about who He is; He has already died for us to walk in righteousness, peace, love, and joy. We do not have to carry the baggage from the past into our future. 1 Peter 5:7 (KJV) tells us to “Cast all your care upon Him; for He cares for you.” Wait, this one is even better: Isaiah 53:4 (MSG):
But the fact is, it was our pains he carried—
our disfigurements, all the things wrong with us.
We thought he brought it on himself,
that God was punishing him for his own failures.
But it was our sins that did that to him,
that ripped and tore and crushed him—our sins!
He took the punishment, and that made us whole.
Through his bruises, we get healed.
Basically, through Jesus, everything that is wrong with us and every bad thing that’s ever happened to us was nailed to the cross. That is some amazing and good news! I no longer have to carry around twisted emotions such as shame, fear, anxiety, bitterness, regret and any other name. Through the healing Jesus provided for me, I am whole. I realize that at my will, I can make an exchange; and friend, you can too. If it is not good, brings peace, and is fueled by love, we can cast it all on Christ and walk in total freedom. If it wasn’t sent from Heaven and it has a name, it is subject to the name of JESUS! It is at His name that all created beings in Heaven and on Earth will bow in worship Philippians 2:10 (MSG). So, if you find yourself carrying baggage that doesn’t belong to you, make an exchange; give it to Jesus, nail it to the cross, and decide from this day forward you will walk in the freedom He died for you to have. In Jesus Name, Amen! Just a little nugget for your soul!
